The Band Lab has successfully concluded its performance at The Tapang Club Soft Launch, held on 12 July 2026 in Batu Kitang, Bau, just outside Kuching. Fielding a 65-strong ensemble in collaboration with acclaimed Bornean world-music band At Adau, we opened Sarawak's newest landmark development with a fusion of full orchestra, choir and traditional Sarawakian instruments.

The Tapang Club is positioned as Asia's first fully integrated private club — bringing sports, wellness and farm-to-table living together on a 12-acre site deep in the rainforests of Bau and named after the towering Tapang tree native to Sarawak. Billed as the club's "first gathering" and themed Born from the jungle, built by the tribe, the invitation-only launch called for an opening equal to the moment. The Band Lab answered with our own arrangement of "Selamat Datai Ke Bumi Kenyalang" (first edition) — a welcome to the Land of the Hornbills. The cultural match was exact: a Sarawakian anthem, performed live, for a club built on Sarawak heritage.

At the heart of the performance was a standout collaboration with At Adau, Kuching's celebrated Bornean fusion band, whose sape-led sound has carried Sarawak's traditional music to festival stages at home and abroad. Featuring on traditional Sarawakian instruments alongside a 65-strong ensemble — nearly fifty instrumentalists across woodwinds, brass, percussion and a full string section, joined by its 15-voice SATB vocal ensemble (The Voice Lab) and led by conductor, Jesmond Siew — the two acts fused symphonic scale with the living voice of Bornean tradition. It was orchestral craft and Sarawakian roots in the same breath.

The official ceremony commenced at 12:30 PM and was officiated by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting, who represented Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. The club is developed by TNCL Holdings (managing director Raymond Tay), with marketing director Darren Wee and general manager Kelvin Jee, and is framed as aligned with Sarawak's Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
