Eugene Chee
From Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Eugene Chee is a freelance band instructor, a wind instrument technician and a clarinet player.
Eugene is an active member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) as a clarinet player performing in the prestigious Concert Hall, “Dewan Filharmonik Petronas” - home for the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO). As a member of the youth orchestra, he had been given opportunities to learn from the MPO musicians, under the tutelage of Gonzalo Esteban (Principle Clarinet) and Chris Bosco (Principle Bass Clarinet) of the MPO.
Eugene is also actively involved in concerts, special collaboration projects, MPYO Chamber Concerts and tours with the MPYO. With the orchestra, he had performed on tours around Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia with the MPYO, and also performed under the batons of many world-class conductors. Throughout his musical years he had also performed with Orchestras and Wind Bands from UK, Germany, US, Spain, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
His passion for music and curiosity to instrument making and repair had led him to pursue his career as a technician in the field of Band Instrument Repair Technology. Starting as an apprentice at The Band Store under the guidance of Mr. Tan Qin Wei, he went on to undertake Wind Instrument Repair courses under the guidance of Japanese Master of Craftsman & Wind Repair Technician, Mr. Atsushi Watanabe.
He is often invited by schools to coach wind bands, woodwind sectionals, clarinet ensembles and individual lessons around Malaysia.Â
