Eric Tiow
Eric Tiow Xian Liang began playing the horn at the age of 12. Having graduated from the UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur, he holds a Bachelor of Classical Music with first-class honours and majored in horn under the tutelage of James Schumacher.
At the age of 15, Eric became a member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) and the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) Symphonic Band. Since then, he has played with the KLPAC Orchestra, Selangor Philharmonic Orchestra and Wind Orchestra (SPO, SPWO), Penang Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), Penang Symphony Orchestra (PSO), The Actors Studio Chorus and Orchestra in Penang, and Kinta Valley Wind Orchestra (KVWO).
In 2017, Eric participated in the Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) World Tour and performed in music festivals in 12 countries across 3 continents including the Lucerne Festival, Young Euro Classic, Merano Festival, Ravello Festival, 66 Festival Internacional De Santander, and Brevard Festival. In 2019, he performed and underwent professional training with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO). He has also appeared as a guest musician with the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), Orkestra Radio Televisyen Malaysia (ORTM), and Orkestra Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL). As an avid chamber musician, he plays with the East Meets West Chamber Ensemble and the KL Brass Project. He is also a founding member of the Negeri Sembilan Sinfonietta (NSS).
Currently, Eric is a brass tutor at the Kolej Yayasan Saad (KYS) in Malacca and a freelancing musician.
