The ACG Concert
Borneo's Largest ACG Orchestra Stadium Concert

Event Overview

The Band Lab has successfully concluded its largest production to date, The ACG Concert, held on January 31, 2026, at Stadium Perpaduan. Officially endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak, the event set a new benchmark for performing arts in Borneo, witnessing a massive crowd and the historic Borneo debut of the viral Japanese dance sensation, Avantgardey.

Hailed as the largest Anime, Comics, and Games (ACG) orchestral production in Borneo, the concert transformed Stadium Perpaduan into a spectacular hub of Japanese pop culture and symphonic grandeur. The event celebrated the strengthening of the "Sarawak-Japan Cultural Bridge," a diplomatic initiative championed by the state to foster deeper artistic ties between the two regions.

The evening was headlined by Avantgardey, the 17-member all-female dance troupe from Osaka, Japan, famed for their synchronised "bob-hair" choreography and appearances on America's Got Talent. Their electrifying set, which included their signature viral hits and a local surprise—a performance of De Fam’s "Alamak Raya Lagi!"—brought the stadium to its feet.

Sharing the stage was The Band Lab’s 60-piece orchestra, led by Conductor Mark Maloney Martinez. The ensemble delivered spine-tingling arrangements of iconic soundtracks from Naruto, Demon Slayer, Haikyuu!!, and Studio Ghibli classics like Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.

The musical grandeur was elevated by the 50-strong Dolce Chanticleer Choir and a lineup of powerhouse guest vocalists, including Dell Lawrence, Chien Ng, Christine Chai, Binyun, Su Shane, and Talitha. The visual spectacle was completed by dancers from Miya Dance Studio and Iris School of Ballet, alongside stunning LED visuals and pyrotechnics that lit up the arena.

The historic evening was graced by the Guest of Honour, YB Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, and his wife, Datin Sri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar.

In a show of strong diplomatic support, the event was also attended by His Excellency Ambassador Shikata Noriyuki, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, alongside YB Dato Sri Nancy Shukri (Minister of Women, Family and Community Development) and YB Datuk Snowdan Lawan (Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts).

"The ACG Concert" has proven Sarawak's capacity to host international-standard productions. By integrating a global act like Avantgardey with local orchestral talent, The Band Lab has positioned Kuching as a rising player in the regional "Concert Tourism" sector, drawing attendees from across Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Japan.

The event also featured a vibrant community atmosphere, with hundreds of fans attending in cosplay, turning the stadium into a colorful celebration of ACG culture.
