Konsert Muzik Rakan Muda Sarawak 2024
A Youth Music Program by MYSED

Event Overview

The Band Lab was invited to collaborate at the Konsert Muzik Rakan Muda Sarawak 2024 (Sarawak Youth Music Concert 2024), an initiative aimed at providing exposure to young people to discover and hone their talents in the field of music.

The Deputy Undersecretary of the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED), Dolhadi Mazuki, stated that the concert not only seeks to unearth the talents of youth but also serves as a significant effort to produce holistic youth who are free to express themselves in the world of music.

“This Youth Program, with its Music branch, is being launched for the second time after Selangor, and this time it’s being held in Sarawak. This program involves all youth in Sarawak, especially those who have an interest in music,” he said when speaking to TVS during the Sarawak Youth Music Concert 2024 in Kuching on Sunday.

He further elaborated that the performances showcased by the participants successfully highlighted exceptional artistic talent that could be further developed to higher levels.

“I am very excited and proud of what has been presented today, as it proves that Sarawak’s youth have abundant talent, though it has not yet been fully displayed,” he said. “This talent needs to be nurtured so it can be taken to higher levels. I believe many more talented young people in Sarawak have the potential in music.”

The concert, part of the Sarawak Youth Music Camp initiative, was organized by the Sarawak Youth and Sports Department in collaboration with the Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED). It involved 77 participants from Sarawak, aged 13 to 30.

The event, which concluded today, featured an orchestra performance by the Youth Music Camp Orchestra and was enriched with songs performed by several participants. Some of the songs performed included "Kurik Kundi," "Puteri Santubong," "Bekikis Bulu Betis," "The Young One," "Wu Men Pu Yang," "Mamma Mia," "Frozen," "Reflection," "Biar Mati di Tangan Sulu," and a medley of folk songs.

With music so closely connected to the soul of today’s youth, efforts to organise more activities like this are hoped to produce a generation of youth who are well-rounded, have strong identities, and reflect Malaysia’s unique musical heritage.
