Event Overview
The sold-out Bridgerton-inspired String Quartet Recitals on 23 and 24 May 2025 at the Chemsain Auditorium were a musical evening unlike any other. Attendees were transported into the enchanting world of Bridgerton, immersed in the best of contemporary pop with the grandeur of classical music, all inspired by the iconic Netflix series Bridgerton.
A Night of Elegance: String Arrangements and Pop Music
Inspired by the popular Netflix series Bridgerton, the recital featured orchestral covers of contemporary pop songs by global artists such as Taylor Swift, BTS, Coldplay, and more. This unique blend of pop and classical music delighted the audience with familiar tunes reimagined through elegant string arrangements.
- Jonathan Ng (Violin 1)
- Kiew Zheng Wei (Violin 2)
- William Ting (Viola)
- Darren Chin (Cello)
Additional musicians from The Strings Lab enriched the performance:
- Anthony Wong (Viola)
- Joshua Lau (Cello)
- Ong Jing Mian (Double Bass)
- Jesmond Siew (Harpsichord)
A captivating highlight of the evening was the performance by rising vocal talent Ashwaree, who, accompanied by the string ensemble, delivered an emotionally charged rendition of Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.”
The Visual Experience: A Dreamy Bridgerton-Inspired Setting
The event’s visual impact was enhanced by stunning choreography from the Iris School of Ballet, adding a visual element to the experience and making it even more immersive.
Guests were invited to step into a scene straight out of Bridgerton, with the venue’s décor reflecting the series' elegance and glamour. A beautiful flower arch greeted guests at the entrance, and the walkway was lined with floral arrangements and European-style pole structures topped with candles, creating a magical atmosphere. The centrepiece, a white wisteria tree, was illuminated by soft lighting and haze, recreating the dreamy dance scene between Simon and Daphne from Season 1.
VIP guests were given exclusive early access to the Queen Chambers, where a character portraying the Queen, dressed in a gown redesigned by The Veil Wedding Gallery Kuching, mingled with guests. Here, attendees had the chance to take photos, enjoy complimentary mocktails like Tropical Temptation or Wisteria Whispers, and network with fellow VIPs.
Each attendee received a beautifully crafted event bookmark, which they could have personalised with their names by experts from Fountain Pens Kuching, or try their hand at calligraphy using a fountain pen themselves.
Interactive Mystery Game: A Fun Twist
In addition to the music and visuals, the audience participated in an interactive mystery game. Tasked by the ‘Queen’, they worked to uncover the identity or location of Lady Whistledown through clues revealed between musical pieces, narrated by Ms Vivien Ng.
This production was not just a concert but a fully immersive event that seamlessly blended music, theatre, and visual artistry, offering an experience unlike any typical classical concert. Guests were encouraged to dress in Regency-era attire, adding to the atmosphere and embracing the Bridgerton theme.
Those who enjoyed the experience were invited to book the string quartet for their own Bridgerton-themed or other special events.
