Event Overview
Kuching's musical scene hit a high note as the Kuching City First Choir Association (KCFCA) stole the spotlight with their 'Music & Words 2023' choral concert at Auditorium, Chemsain on the evening of Dec 2. Drawing over 200 music fans and choral art supporters, the event was graced by Madam Kho Teck Wan, Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, representing Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier of Sarawak.
Jehté Chamber Choir , KCFCA's flagship choir, wowed the audience, showcasing cultural richness and diversity with their exciting repertoire. From the cheers that echoed during performances of Hela Rotan (Indonesia), Kia Hora Te Marino (Maori), Ru Guo Ming Tian Jiu Shi Xia Yi Sheng (Taiwan), to the thrilling arrangement of Jingle Bells, each performance was an unexpected delight.
The concert didn't just showcase international flavours; it also celebrated Sarawak's own rich culture. Performances like Kanjet Ngeleput, an Orang Ulu dance, and the multiethnic spectacle titled Seribu Rentak (a thousand beats) by Bung Bratak Cultural Group, brought the local culture to the forefront.
Collaborations with Bung Bratak Cultural Group and another The Band Lab, who serenaded the crowd with Tan Sri P. Ramlee’s classic “Getaran Jiwa” and Takekawa Yukihide’s “Galaxy Express 999,” added an extra layer of musical excitement. Instrumental, vocal solo, and duet performances further enchanted the audience.
Hats off to KCFCA for orchestrating an exceptionally entertaining concert that stood out for its uniqueness – from the repertoire to the backdrop and the overall concept. It's intriguing to see how KCFCA is pushing boundaries, injecting a fresh vibe into Sarawak's thriving entertainment industry, contributing significantly to its continued growth.
