"An ACG Symphony" Concert
Borneo's Largest and Only Full Orchestra ACG Live Concert

Event Overview

The recently concluded 'An ACG Symphony,' Borneo’s largest full orchestra concert, left a lasting impression on over 1,000 audience members with stunning live renditions of beloved anime soundtracks.

Organised by The Band Lab (TBL) in collaboration with the Kuching Choral Society and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak, the event played to a sold-out crowd at the brand-new Ang Cheng Ho Quarry Multipurpose Hall on August 10.

The orchestra captivated fans of Japanese animation with performances of iconic soundtracks from renowned titles such as One Piece, Attack on Titan, Kimi No Nawa, Frieren, and works from Studio Ghibli.

The ensemble also delivered powerful renditions of popular game soundtracks from Genshin Impact and Final Fantasy.

Adding to the evening's magic, renowned local singers Chien Ng, Dell Lawrence, Christine Chai, and Shann Liaw showcased their vocal talents, leaving the audience in awe. Local cosplayer and anisong singer Amelia Khor made a special appearance, contributing her vocals to YOASOBI’s Yuusha.

The event was graced by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Political Secretary to the Premier Susan Clement Ingun (representing Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan), Padawan Municipal Council Chairman Tan Kai, and Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) President Audry Wan Ullok.

Dr Sim said the concert reminded him of George Lucas’ Star Wars soundtrack concert he attended once, performed by Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

“From the jungle of Borneo, we are as good as anywhere else. It’s no longer the “jungle of Borneo” standard but a home-grown world-class standard. I am more confident than ever of our talents in Sarawak.

“Thanks for taking the risk, being the first-ever night event held at the brand-new Ang Cheng Ho Quarry Multipurpose Hall,” he said.

TBL’s founder and president, who also served as the event organizer, expressed his ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of quality concerts and pioneering innovations that enhance the concert experience.

We hope to pioneer and redefine the orchestral concert experience for our audiences while remaining relevant to their interests.

“We look forward to working with the community as part of #teamTBL to continue pushing the boundaries of music education and experiences in Sarawak.

“Any support, help, or sponsorship is appreciated to deliver better, improved experiences,” he said.

He also announced several upcoming projects, including the inaugural Sarawak International Band and Orchestra Festival (SIBOFest) 2024.

SIBOFest is a four-day music festival themed “Music, Culture, and Friendship,” set to take place from September 17 to 20 at Lodge Secondary School. The festival aims to expand access to music education by providing affordable, professional workshops for musicians and educators.

Other upcoming projects include a Disney-themed flash mob performance at Kuching Waterfront and a String Ensemble recital featuring music from the beloved Netflix series Bridgerton, with dates to be announced soon.
