Yap Siu Yan
Malaysian percussionist Yap Siu Yan has been an active performer across the globe since 2009. She has performed in professional ensembles such as the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Macau Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia, Westmoreland Symphony, and Resonance Works at Pittsburgh, USA. She is also the producer, and scriptwriter of the local children production — “Jungle Dream: A Percussive Expedition” Siu Yan enjoys exploring music with unlimited possibilities, being a percussionist allows her to experiment with various kind of instruments, sometimes unconventional instruments like papers, trash cans, suitcases, and duct tapes.
Siu Yan currently serves as Percussion Lecturer of UCSI, and Mallet Percussion Lecturer of UPSI.
Siu Yan received her Master of Music degree from the Carnegie Mellon School of Music (USA) in 2015, where she studied with Chris Allen, Paul Evans, and Jeremy Branson. In 2013, she graduated from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore in the studio of Jonathan Fox. The student exchange program to Peabody Conservatory of Music made it possible for her to study in the studio of renowned percussionists Robert van Sice and David Skidmore. Previously, she studied with Paul Philbert and Kiyomi Kikuchi.
