A native of Ipoh, Malaysia, Mohamad Shahrizal is currently based in Evanston, Illinois where he is pursuing his Master's degree at Northwestern University, studying with renowned American saxophonist Taimur Sullivan. He had previously obtained his Bachelor's Degree at UCSI University, Kuala Lumpur under the tutelage of Mr. Ian Chan.

Shahrizal had actively played with the Philharmonic Winds of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) Symphonic Band and the Birdian Saxophone Quartet and Ensemble, who he had performed with in the 1st Asia Saxophone Congress 2016 in Taiwan, and the Hong Kong International Saxophone Symposium 2018. He has also appeared as a guest saxophonist with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the KLPAC Orchestra.

Shahrizal is also a member of the East Meets West chamber music group, who had held their debut recitals in Bintulu and Sibu, Sarawak in 2019. He was also the first prize recipient in the open woodwind solo category in the Malaysia International Virtual Band Championship 2020.

Throughout the years, Shahrizal has had the privilege of being involved in masterclasses and lessons with renowned saxophonists such as Jean-Yves Fourmeau, Arno Bornkamp, Javier Valerio and Kenneth Tse.
