Lin Ka Chun

Native Hong Kong, Lin Ka Chun is a dedicated arts administrator with special interests in musical groups. Lin graduated from the University of Otago in New Zealand, majoring in Politics and Asian Studies followed by a Master of Arts in Cultural Management from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Lin’s career as an arts administrator had begun when he joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra as an Education and Outreach Officer in 2013. In 2015, he joined the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong to oversee the Men in Jazz Project, a senior wind band as an Orchestra Manager up till April 2019.

Lin was first exposed to music at the age of thirteen when he started secondary school at the St. Bonaventure College and High School. Lin was part of the wind band led by Mr Alfonso Wong as a flutist. He is currently the member of Hong Kong Symphonic Winds. He also played for the Otago Symphony Band during his years in New Zealand.

Throughout his service as the Orchestra Manager for the Men in Jazz Project, he had initiated and lead the senior wind band across Asia Pacific, partaking in festivals and music events – the Taiwan Chiayi International Band Festival (2015), Singapore Silver Arts (2017), Indonesia Orchestra and Ensemble Festival (2018). Lin had also led an elderly music tour in promotion of elderly arts to Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore. The band was also invited as guest performers at the Golden Jubilee celebration of His Majesty Sultan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne.

Apart from touring overseas, Lin also aspires to make music as a platform for cultural exchange. Hence, Lin worked with numerous professional music groups and artists overseas to perform in Hong Kong. He organised Hong Kong-Poland cultural week in conjunction to 100th years anniversary of Poland Regaining Independence. The cultural week was in collaboration with General consulate of Poland in Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The South China Normal University and Jao Tsung-I Academy.

Lin is also an academician with special interests in music and wind band history; cultural policy in music and arts development. One of his ongoing major research is on "Wind Band History of Hong Kong since 1842".

Having to lead the ELCHK Men in Jazz Music Project, Lin was awarded the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2018, the Award for Arts Education for non-school category.
