Agnes Lau
Agnes is a trumpeter and music educator. She received her Bachelor of Music with Honours in Trumpet Performance from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore where she was awarded a full merit scholarship. She is the 1st prize winner of the Malaysia International Virtual Band Championships (MIVBC) 2020 - open solo category, and a two-time recipient of the Gold with Honours award.
As a trumpet player, Agnes has performed in numerous local and international platforms, including in countries such as Georgia, Spain, Hong Kong and Thailand to name a few. Her diverse musical interests have led her to perform with various types of ensembles including the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, The Philharmonic Orchestra (Singapore), Lion City Brass Band, NUS Jazz Band, Lion City Youth Jazz Festival, Opus Novus (new music), YST Trumpet Ensemble as well as various other brass quintets.
Agnes has studied with Jon Dante, Lau Wen Rong, SĂ©rgio Pacheco, William Theis, John Bourque and Mitsuo Nonami. She has also taken part in masterclasses by Pasi Pirinen, Bill Williams, Anthony Plog, Jason Evans, Adam Rapa, Lukas Beno, and the Boston Brass.
In Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST), she experienced life-changing education and was inspired to bring this privilege to her hometown through organising music training project - Miri Music Project (2019) and Southeast Asia Regional Project (2018) where undergraduates from YST were flown to Miri and Brunei to conduct week-long coachings, workshops, masterclasses and recitals.
Besides playing the trumpet, Agnes holds an Associate Diploma in Violin Performance with the highest distinction from the International Music Examination Board (AIMEB) as well as Grade 8 in both piano and violin examinations from the Trinity College of London. She enjoys teaching trumpet, violin, piano as well as school bands online during her free time.
