Adam Tan
Adam Tan is a marimbist, educator, composer, and content creator from Perth, Western Australia.
Adam is most known for being a YouTube content creator on THE STUDIO, a YouTube show uploading weekly episodes about various topics of percussion, such as gear, technique and tutorials. With over 26,000 subscribers and 2 million views, THE STUDIO continues to reach percussionists around the world.
Adam has performed and presented both locally and internationally in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan and the United States. Highlights include performances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), inc. percussion days (Japan), PAS Hong Kong Days of Percussion (Hong Kong), Oh! Asian Percussionists Series (Hong Kong), Malaysia Percussion Festival, Chosen Vale Percussion Seminar (USA), Australian Percussion Gathering (Australia), Australian Marimba Competition (Australia), and masterclass presentations at the National Sun Yat-Sen University (Taiwan), National Kaohsiung Normal University (Taiwan), Kaohsiung Senior High School (Taiwan), National Wu-Ling Senior High School (Taiwan), 505A Percussion Gathering (Hong Kong) and MalletLab Summer Intensive (USA).
As a composer, Adam's works for percussion appear in repertoire lists in schools, competitions and festivals around the world, including the UIL Texas Prescribed Music List (PML). Adam's music is both released independently in PDF format and also published and distributed internationally by Edition Svitzer in Denmark. Adam's works ap on his debut album Hope, which can be listened to on all music platforms.
Adam is the founder and director of Marimbafest Australia, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of percussive arts in Australia. Marimbafest Australia curates the annual international marimba festival and competition Marimbafest and Percussion All-Stars.
Adam has a Master of Music (Research, Percussion) and Bachelor of Music (1st Class Hons) from the University of Western Australia Conservatorium of Music (UWA), receiving the Lady Callaway Medal for Music, Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) Prize in Third-Year Performance, ROSL Postgraduate Scholarship, UWA Graduates Prize in Music and the Australian Postgraduate Award. Adam was under the tutelage of Louise Devenish, Paul Tanner, Nicole Turner and Tim White, and received mentorship from Mark Applebaum, Kuniko Kato, Doug Perkins, Suyin Tan and Nancy Zeltsman.
